(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's Medicaid programs will get $173 million that will help restore programs lost to budget cuts from wheelchair ramps to extended health care for people who return to work after getting welfare.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said Thursday that South Carolina would get the cash infusion immediately after issues were cleared up involving the state's efforts to restore programs cut during the past nine months.
That $173 million mostly reimburses the state at a higher rate for health care services between October and March.
State Department of Health and Human Services spokesman Jeff Stensland says the state will use the extra money first to restore eligibility for programs it has curtailed and then on services.
