"I always told them that if anyone messed with ya'll to stick together and Jevonn said "yes, momma we'll stick together," said Lawson.
That's exactly what 14-year-old Jevonn and 16-year-od Chantel Lawson were doing Saturday.
The two wandered from their Bassett Loop Drive home mid-afternoon and never returned.
"Six, seven, eight, nine o'clock, " said Lawson.
That's when their parents, Evon and Andrew started walking the neighborhood, checking the park and other areas they visited.
Sunday morning rolled around and still no sign of the girls. That's when a resident told Evon he saw a pair of shoes by the spillway.
"I looked at both of the tennis shoes and said "God, don't tell me their under this water," said Lawson.
Rescue crews recovered the bodies Sunday afternoon.
Coroner Gary Watts says the girls drowned and their deaths are accidental.
"When they found the bodies, they were together holding hands... they're in God's hands now," said Lawson.
A little consulation for a mother and father who now have to bury their daugthers.
