COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -- Hundreds of teachers, administrators and other school employees across South Carolina could lose their jobs once the school year ends.

That means large classes as district officials trim staff to deal with ever-shrinking state revenues.

School officials say it's still early in their budgeting process for 2009-10, with a final vote not needed until June. The federal stimulus package approved Friday by Congress will pump hundreds of millions of dollars into education in South Carolina.

But educators are unsure what the final numbers will be or the requirements on how to spend the money.

The state budget has shrunk by $1 billion since July, with nearly $321 million of the cuts coming from South Carolina's 85 school districts. More cuts are expected next year.
