Teachers remain in high demand for Richland One Schools. On Saturday, a job fair was held for certified teachers. For first-year teacher Jamal Davis, Saturday's fair could not have come at a better time.
'It opens up people who are seeking employment in education, to options we may not have considered," said Davis.
Richland One estimates nearly 200 new teachers will be in demand during the upcoming school year. Recruiter, Dr. Robert Rhinehart, knows despite the slumping economy there is a need for instructors.
"Special education, Math, Science and also Foreign Languages; although we are interviewing for all areas, there is typically a critical shortage in those areas," said Dr. Rhinehart.
Charlotte, North Carolina, resident Patrice Brown made the drive into the Midlands to find out more about the classroom opportunities.
"I wanted to experience something new. I feel like teaching is something that is rewarding at the end of the day," said Brown. "And its more than just going into a corporate job. But you can give of yourself."
Brown says she's ready to move to the head of the class.
"They are pulling from my background, and seeing where they can use me," said Brown. "So it's really been fulfilling for me."
This marks the 10th year for the Teacher-Education Job Fair.
