For several weeks Glenforest School athletics director and basketball coach William Knopf has been doing something peculiar to promote a good cause.  Knopf has been coaching barefoot to drum up support for a Charlotte-based charity called Samaritan's Feet.

The organization helps underprivileged children both in the United States and abroad.  Knopf is one of several high school and college-level coaches hoping to get exposure for the cause.

Over the past few weeks, Knopf challenged his players and students at the West Columbia school to donate at least 100 shoes to the charity.  Tuesday night they exceeded that goal.

Knopf coached barefoot again and following the game presented 205 pairs of shoes and almost $250 to representatives from Samaritan's Feet.  The donations came from students, opposing teams like South Aiken Baptist and Columbia Covenant Classical Christian School, as well as from the community.
