In June, two Midlands teachers will be taking the trip of a lifetime.
Lisa Ellis and Nicole Walker are travelling to Uganda, hoping to restore peace to a region at war for more than 20 years.
Faces of despair and malnourishment fill Uganda. Teacher Nicole Walker wants to help change that.
"What we're trying to do is get these kids safe places to go to school, rebuild the environment with things like water supply and renewable resources," said Walker.
Walker and 36 other teachers from around the United States will travel to Uganda, offering their experiences and leadership to a country with little luxuries.
"It's a big task, but I'm really excited about it. I think that we have a lot to offer them and they have a lot to offer us," said Walker.
Even the smallest things like food and water will be hard to come by.
She'll spend six weeks in a dorm, teaching literacy strategies to teachers, and it won't be easy.
"It's going to be a bit different than our American experience, but we're kinda excited about the challenge," said Walker.
Walker hopes she can take her life learned expereinces from Uganda and bring them back to the United States.
The cost for the trip isn't cheap.
It costs $5,000 per teacher.
