Fire safety tips when keeping warm

With temperatures expected to reach near single digit lows this weekend

Midland's residents should keep safe while trying to keep warm.

Firefighters are urging residents to take the following precautions when

heating their homes.

     -When using portable heaters always read the manuel and follow

     manufactor instructions.

     -Unplug all heaters when not in use or when no one is in the room.

     -Be sure to have chimneys and fireplaces inspected each year.

     -Provide 3 feet of clearence above and around all heaters.

     -Gas furnances should be inspected before use.

     -Plug all heaters direclty into the outlet.  Refrain from using extension

      cords.
