MONKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- A state judge has set a $50,000 bond for a Florida man accused of homicide by child abuse in the drowning death last summer of a mildly autistic child in Goose Creek.

Twenty-two-year-old Saquan Meekins of Palm Coast, Fla., is charged in the death of 10-year-old Jon Jon Jackson, who died after swimming June 1.

The Charleston Post and Courier reports Meekin's attorney, Mark Peper, said during a Thursday hearing before Circuit Judge Markley Dennis the child may have ingested too much tap water.

A police affidavit says witnesses saw Meekins holding the child under water.

But Peper said the child could have ingested too much water when he was hosed off at the pool. The child took a second shower a short while later at his home.
