WACH FOX News has more on a developing story in Richland County.
Earlier this week we told you about an argument between two men at a neighborhood bar that turned physical, and, ultimately deadly.
James Simmons, 46, died Monday after a weekend fight at a Garners Ferry Road bar. The Richland County coroner says Simmons died from a blow to his head.
Simmons leaves behind three children and six brothers and sisters. That family is pulling together after losing the man they called "the runt" of the family.
"If he gave you the shirt off his back he gave you a piece of his heart with it," says sister Diana Durer. "To lose him it breaks a chain in our family. We've never lost one of the siblings before. It's devastating, especially for my mother."
By all accounts Simmons was a well-liked man who often spent time at a neighborhood bar in Lower Richland County. Folks there called him "Junior." They also called him a friend.
"He was the kind of guy that if you knew him you couldn't do nothing but like him," says brother Leroy Simmons.
Investigators say early Saturday, Simmons had a disagreement with Damon Scott, 30, at the bar when things got physical. Simmons wound up in the hospital, slipped into a coma and died Monday. Authorities are still trying to figure out why the men were arguing.
Damon Scott is in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He has been charged with murder.
