GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) -- Goose Creek police have charged a man with contributing to the drowning of a 10-year-old-boy several months after his death.

Authorities told The Post and Courier of Charleston that 22-year-old Saquan Meekins, of Palm Coast, Fla., is charged with homicide by child abuse.

Prosecutors wouldn't discuss the details of the case, but said the charge requires an extreme indifference to a child's life.

Shortly after Jon Jon Jackson died in June, officials said he inhaled too much water while learning how to swim and died in his sleep at his home more than an hour later from a condition known as secondary drowning.

Meekins' mother says her son was patient with the autistic boy while they were in the pool.

The boy's mother says the charges are untrue.
