Investigators say the suspects kicked in the side door of the victim's home.
Sumter County deputies are investigating a brutal attack and car theft.
It happened on Morningside Drive near Highway 76 in Sumter on Monday night.
Deputies say three men broke into a woman’s home and slit her throat with a knife, then stole her car. Deputies have not named any suspects.
Neighbors are stunned such a terrible crime happened in their community. Andrew Little has lived on Morningside Drive for nine years.
"Every now and then we hear of some things going on, but most part it's a quiet neighborhood," said Little.
Sumter County Lieutenant David Florence says on Monday night things were anything but a quiet. Florence says three men broke into a woman’s home.
"They broke into a side door, just kicked a side door into the residence, they grabbed the lady, threatened her with a knife and did cut her throat," said Lt. Florence.
Martha McMahon, age 59, lives at the home alone and was able to call 911 after her attackers stole her car.
Shortly after McMahon’s car was stolen, deputies located two of the suspects driving the car near McMahon’s home. Florence says the two men fled and deputies were not able to catch them. They are currently processing the car for evidence and are looking at a couple of persons of interest.
