CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say an armed man who blocked the hospital emergency room entrance in Conway in an overnight standoff with police has been taken into custody.

Myrtle Beach Police Chief Reggie Gosnell says no one was hurt in the standoff that ended late Wednesday morning at Conway Medical Center. Gosnell says his officers seized an opportunity to capture the man as negotiations were under way.

Authorities refused to release the man's name and said Gosnell said he could not provide details on a motive.

Hospital spokeswoman Julie Rajotte says the man drove into an ambulance bay around 7 p.m. Tuesday and refused to move. The man asked police to let him speak to his probation officer.

Authorities say there was no indication the man had any connection with the hospital.
