COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Families of seven South Carolina college students killed in a beach house fire in North Carolina last year are working to raise money for scholarships and to help others who have suffered fire losses.

The Greenville News reported the groups plan two fundraising events this week in Columbia to benefit students and fire victims.

The Oct. 28, 2007 fire in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., killed six University of South Carolina students and one Clemson University student. The exact cause of the fire was not determined.

USC fraternities and sororities will sponsor the Inaugural Remembrance Concert on Thursday to help raise money for scholarships.

Fraternities, sororities and a foundation started by victims' families will sponsor a bike-a-thon Saturday starting on USC's Horseshoe to aid victims of fires.
