A three-vehicle collision in Aiken County left one dead Wednesday.

Jose Hector Gonzales-Hernandez, 31, of North Charleston, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Interstate 20 near mile marker 6.

Hernandez was driving a refrigerated box truck carrying produce. He was heading eastbound toward Columbia when his vehicle crossed into the median, over the retainer wires and was hit by a westbound 1998 Peterbilt tractor trailor. A Nissan SUV was also involved in the collision.

Interstate 20 was shut down for several hours.

The other two drivers were taken to the Medical College of Georgia with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say rain may have been a factor in the accident. Highway Patrol is investigating.
