RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Brett Parker has been arrested and is charged with two counts of murder in the shooting that occurred in an upscale Irmo neighborhood in April.

On April 13, 44-year-old Tammy Parker and 46-year-old Bryan Capnerhurst were shot multiple times in the upper body, and were pronounced dead in Parker's home in Ascot Estates where the shooting took place, according to Coroner Gary Watts.

Neighbors and friends rushed to the scene on Tackeria Court all afternoon looking for answers in the case, but investigators released very few details until Friday, July 20.

Sheriff Leon Lott said in a news conference at 4:30 Friday that Parker's initial statements provided to deputies do not match "at all" with the evidence that has been examined by multiple agencies.

Brett Parker, 42,  is accused of shooting his wife, Tammy Parker, with one gun and Capnerhurst with a second gun. According to Lott, both guns were owned by Parker.

"The evidence doesn not match the story Brett Parker told us," said Lott.

Authorities say Tammy Parker was likely shot first in the incident.

Lott said it was a lengthy investigation because of the outside experts needed to assist in the "complex, complicated" case.

"I'm here to talk about facts," said Lott "We feel like we have enough evidence to prove that Brett Parker killed two people."

Lott says the three-month murder investigation coincided with a gambling operation investigation that was being conducted by U.S. Secret Service and the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

According to Lott, Brett Parker owed Capnerhurst around $20,000.

"[Some say] gambling is a victimless crime, but if you asked the family members, they will tell you there are victims associated with gambling," said Lott.

Lott says gambling played a big part in this case, but the department is not working to establish a motive at this time.

Parker's attorney Dave Fedor tells WACH Fox that Parker is "absolutely" sticking to his self-defense story that he has been telling since the beginning of the investigation.
