COLUMBIA (WACH) - The 2013 Palmetto Sportsmen's Classic opened Friday at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.

Vendors put out new gear for upcoming hunting seasons and let attendees try out some of that gear.

Sunday, an appearance by R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere from the show "Swamp People" is scheduled from noon until 5 p.m.

Vendors say this is how they get the word out about their new products.

Mitchell Johnston owns Dead End Game Calls and says travelling is just a part of the job.

"This is one of the things as a game call maker that we do," said Johnston. "We travel from show to show. We were in Raleigh, NC, just a couple of weeks ago, and now we've made it back here for our second year here in Columbia. It's an exciting time. People get to see new calls and new toys to play with this spring."

The event runs through Sunday, rain or shine.
