COLUMBIA (WACH) - A pedestrian was hit by a car shortly past noon near The University of South Carolina.

According to Columbia Police spokesperson Jennifer Timmons, Laneisha Moskowitz has been cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Police say Moskowitz was driving a red Nissan Altima, attempting to turn left onto Assembly Street, when she failed to yield to a female pedestrian.

The pedestrian had the legal right-of-way and was crossing over Assembly Street in the crosswalk with a walk signal, according to Timmons. She was struck by the front of the Altima.

Timmons said the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. She is in stable condition.
