Cooper fired 8 employees in the days leading up to his resignation announcement, citing failure to follow university rules.

"I believe the steps I've taken in the last 90 days, will allow the board to continue to restore, integrity, trust, and academic excellence to our university,” Cooper said Friday.

An S.C. State spokeswoman told WACH-Fox news that Board of Trustees Vice-Chairman John Corbitt is the only person who can speak on the record about the presidential search.

Corbitt was in Greenville Monday, and attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.
