COLUMBIA (WACH) - The next big holiday on the schedule is Thanksgiving and a local food bank got a big boost to help families in need.

The Motorcycle Social and Auto Club Alliance of South Carolina hosted a turkey drive at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store on Forest Drive. The drive is for the Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia.

Food Bank Spokesman Garrick said they gained enough money to feed about a thousand meals. They also received more than ten new turkeys for the holiday season.

Garrick said every $5 donated can produce 25 meals for families that are struggling.

"Harvest Hope feeds about 38,000 people a week across 20 counties. We can't do it without the help of great organizations like the Motorcycle Auto Social Club of South Carolina," said Garrick.
