COLUMBIA (WACH) – A Columbia police officer was involved in an early Friday morning shooting while responding to a call.

According to Police Chief Randy Scott, just after midnight on Friday, officers were dispatched to 1810 Allen Benedict Court for a domestic disturbance call.

When they arrived, officers say 28-year-old Anthony Walker was "violently assulting" a woman.  As the officers tried to help the woman, Walker tried to grab one of the officer's gun.  In the meylay, an officer fired his weapon, hitting the Walker, who was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.  The officer was not hurt.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.  Chief Scott is asking that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC, or text CRIMES to 274637.
