COLUMBIA (WACH) - Officials with the Columbia Police Department say the child who was hit by a car on Two Notch Road Tuesday ran into the street into traffic against a green light.

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Two Noth Road and Germany Street.

Police say the department's Traffic Safety Unit determined the child darted into the street before being hit by a car. The driver, who hit the child and ran off of the road, was issued a citation for violation of a beginner's permit.

Richland One school district officials say the child was a boy in the sixth grade.

The boy was transported to a local hospital after the collison. His condition has not been released.
