COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Research shows that nearly 40 percent of U.S. women have never been married.

In May, Good Day Columbia's Janet Parker brought you a story on what Midlands women think about marriage.

Now, Midlands men get to share their perspective on tying the knot.

Mike Evans,31, is single, successful and in his prime. He has strong family values and refuses to settle.

"There are so many stories about unsuccessful marriages that it really makes you want to be certain that that person is 100 percent the one," said Evans.

The owner of Pearlz in the Vista says that his parents have been married for 50 years, a union that he considers to be sacred and a model for what he also hopes to have one day.

"In my family there is no second chance; when you're married that's it," said Evans.

Brian DeQuincey Newman is another Columbia bachelor.

He's a modern Midlands man who strives for excellence in his career and in a future wife.

"I think that you'll just know when you meet that person," said Newman.  "Obviously you want to spend some time to get to know them, but I think when you meet them, you'll know it's right."

The Columbia City Councilman takes pride in serving the people, and similar to Evans, Newman's parents have also set the standard of what marriage should look like.

"There are definitely people around me that I envy, and I would say most notable, my parents, they have a very strong relationship," said Newman.

These Midlands men are on the same page when it comes to tying the knot.
