COLUMBIA (WACH) - A Columbia Police officer was sent to the hospital after being injured in a late morning car accident in Columbia.

According to Trooper Brent Kelly with the Highway Patrol, Columbia Police Officer Joshua Snyder was traveling east on Devine Street, when his vehicle struck a Mazda SUV.  The driver of the SUV was not hurt.  The Mazda had stopped for a USPS truck making deliveries along Devine Street near Kalmia Road.

Snyder did not stop and his cruiser hit the back of the Mazda SUV.  Snyder is charged with driving too fast for conditions.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
