COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Some Midlands high school students showcasing their artistic abilities at a scholarship luncheon hosted by local gospel radio station WFMV.

The Portrait of Hope Art Gallery is a new addition to the Future Leader Scholarship Initiative that the gospel station established.

The gallery is designed to provide an outlet for aspiring artists to have their work exposed to the community and seen by industry professionals.

The ultimate goal is for the gallery to promote higher education, in support of the Future Leader Scholarship.

One student at the luncheon tells us why he decided to create art.

"I was writing a song at the time in my photoshop class, we were doing water color portraits and I decided to do mine on music, because that’s a big part of my life,” says Aaron Graves, Richland NE Senior High.

Twelve pieces were on display in this year’s gallery.

Tuesday's luncheon was held at the Brookland Baptist Church Banquet & Conference Center.

The following schools were represented:

Richland Northeast High School, Dreher High School, Brookland Cayce High School, Irmo High School, Dutch Fork High, Dutch Fork Middle School
