KERSHAW COUNTY (WACH) -- A multi-vehicle crash involving two tractor trailers Thursday night shut down Interstate 20 westbound in Kershaw County for quite so time.

According to Brent Kelly with the SC Highway Patrol, the scene was clear before Friday morning's traffic commute.

Thursday night Chief Dennis Ray of the Lugoff Fire Department saying one lane was open but was asking drivers to take a detour into Columbia.

Chief Ray says the mess started when a tractor trailer and pickup truck collided on I-20 near mile marker 90. Ray says no one was injured in that crash.

As crews were working to clean up that scene, Chief Ray says a tractor trailer carrying milk swerved to miss emergency vehicles and overturned.

Chief Ray says that truck caught on fire and the driver was trapped inside. Fortunately, since crews were already on the scene from the previous accident, they were able to quickly put out the flames and pull the driver out. He was taken to a hospital. There is no word yet on the extent of his injuries.

Since crews have to remove all the milk in the truck before they can flip it back over, Chief Ray says lanes along I-20 should be blocked for some time.

The crashes shut down all westbound lanes near mile marker 90 heading into Columbia for several hours.

Detours are set in place. Drivers need to get off on exit 92 which is the Lugoff exit, and then take Highway 12 (Percival Road) into Columbia.
