ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- Cotton growers from across South Carolina are heading to Orangeburg to discuss their crops.

Clemson Extension and the S.C. Cotton Board are hosting the S.C. Cotton Growers Annual Meeting on Tuesday in Orangeburg.

“Cotton is a crop that can promise you the most and give you the least and promise you the least and give you the most,” said cotton grower Monty Rast.

Rast has been growing cotton for decades and admits the world of cotton has changed.

“The way we handle cotton in the field has really revolutionized itself and made it a lot more efficient,” said Rast.

The daylong program includes a report from the association. There are also presentations on bale contamination, weed-control options and new cotton varieties.

Several cotton industry experts are scheduled to give presentations. Gary Adams, vice president for economics and policy analysis for the National Cotton Council of America in Cordova, Tenn., is planning to give an outlook for the crop's upcoming year.

Jim Brumley, executive director of the Southeastern Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation in Montgomery, Alabama is slated to report on a boll weevil eradication program.
