COLUMBIA (WACH) - Blood donations are needed at the American Red Cross.

During the winter months, fewer people donate due to flu and seasonal illness.

People who received a flu shot can still donate as long as they are feeling well.

People who have had the flu or another illness are asked to wait 24 hours after symptoms are gone before donating.

"It's very important for people to make an effort to give blood, but especially this time of year when we tend to see a decline in donations. It's even more important that people make  an appointment to give," said Jamie Muldrow with the American Red Cross.

Officials say they are most in need of O Negative and B Negative blood types.
