CHESTER, S.C. (AP) -- Chester County's new sheriff says he has found at least 50 warrants that were never served by his predecessor.

Sheriff Alex Underwood told The Herald of Rock Hill that he has asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate why the warrants were not served and whether anyone should face criminal charges.

Underwood says the warrants were found under desks and on top of file cabinets after he took office earlier this month. The crimes range from shoplifting to drug violations to assaults.

Deputies say they will need to check the warrants to make sure they should still be active before making arrests.
