COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Wednesday is National Reading Day and students from Gonzales Gardens Head Start took part in a thirty minute storytime at the University of South Carolina's SC Center for Children's Books and Literacy.

Students aged from three to five listened to stories from librarian Helen Fellers.

The stories had students learning and interacting with the story.

"It gives the child a head start," said Daphne Suber with Gonzales Gardens Head Start. "Encourage the parents. This is the beginning of their lives, so introduce them to all the literacy and everything they can when it comes to [the children]."

Teachers say by reading to your children your helping prepare them for the day they start school.
