FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- A group on Folly Beach is launching an effort to bring limited drinking back to the beach southwest of Charleston.

Drinking on the beach was banned last year after dozens of drunken revelers tangled with law officers in a Fourth of July brawl. Five officers were hurt and seven people were arrested.

Now a group is working to get signatures on a petition to have a city-wide referendum on the issue. Their proposal would ban drinking only during daylight hours on weekends and all day on Memorial Day, July Fourth and Labor Day.
