GREENVILLE, S.C. (WACH/AP)—A suspect has been shot and killed following a confrontation with officers in the parking lot of the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center, according to the agency.
Police officials say that at about 3 a.m. Monday morning, a man approached an officer as he was walking to his car and threatened him with what “appeared to be a weapon.” A sheriff’s deputy was also in the area and assisted the officer. Investigators say that the officer and the deputy fired on the suspect when he refused to put what they say appeared to be a weapon down. It's been recovered but police have not said what it is.
The suspect was 31-year-old Wesley Kyle Swilling of Mauldin.
The names of the officers involved have not been released. Both officers are on administrative leave while the State Law Enforcement Division investigates, which is standard in officer involved shootings.
