COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce’s website is back up and running after what officials call a “defacement.”

Department spokeswoman Adrienne Fairwell says the incident was discovered around 6:45 Saturday night. She stresses the site was not hacked.

According to Fairwell, an image someone managed to get on the website was taken down within an hour. She also says no personal information was lost, accessed or stolen.

She says the defacement, which is similar to graffiti on a wall, happened on about 12 other websites nationwide.
