COLUMBIA (WACH/AP) -- The South Carolina NAACP says the King Day at the Dome observance will focus on mental health issues.

State NAACP president Lonnie Randolph says a representative of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will speak at the Statehouse rally on Martin Luther King Jr. Day next month.

Bill Lindsey with the alliance's state group says last week's school shooting in Connecticut makes it a good time to talk about mental health issues. Lindsey says the state has not had the political will to provide the money needed for treatment of mental illness.
