CAYCE, S.C. (WACH) - A state-of-the-art facility opening its doors in Cayce Wednesday morning.

The new regional wastewater treatment plant will serve the City of Cayce, Town of Lexington and other areas of Lexington County.

Officials say this is a major economic development for the area; creating jobs and better serving the people for years to come.

"So our rivers are clean; for our kids to want to play in the river, for recreational tourism of kayaking and paddleboarding on that river. Those things for the next generation will be taken care of even better because of the way this wastewater treatment plant is run," said City of Cayce Mayor Elise Partin.

Partin says the new facility pumps 25 million gallons of wastewater per day compared to 9 million gallons per day at the old location.
