IRMO (WACH) – An early morning blaze has displaced about a dozen residents at the Stoney Creek Apartments, located at 18 Berryhill Road.

Firefighters responded to the apartment fire around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The Battalion Chief says there was moderate to heavy fire coming out of the front of the building on the first floor of the complex. Six apartments were damaged.

Authorities say it took two hours to get the fire under control. The cause and approximate amount of damage is currently unknown.

"We're just fortunate that someone noticed it and got everybody else out -- that was the important thing," said Jeff Allen, chief investigator for Irmo Fire District.

According to Irmo Fire Chief Mike Sonefled, there were no injuries related to the fire, but ten adults and one child have been displaced from the building.

The Red Cross arrived on the scene to look after the victims.
