LEXINGTON, SC (WACH) -- Dozens of robots invaded Lexington on Saturday.

The 14th annual First Lego League State Robotics Championship was held at White Knoll High School.

Eighty teams consisting of children between 9-14 years old got a chance to show off their robots in action. Participants had to accomplish several types of missions.

This year's theme was "Senior Solutions", students had to build robots that can help solve problems that the elderly face daily.

Winners received championship trophies; but First Lego League Spokesperson Mary Graves said getting students involved in  science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is the main reward.

"It is a hands on way for them to practice STEM," Graves said. "We are a hands on curriculum type of organization. The kids have to design, build, and program a robot to perform missions."

The event also included a junior league for for students ages six to nine.
