A K-9 who helped police recover more than $100,000 in drugs laid to rest.
SOUTH CONGAREE (WACH) -- A police dog has lost his fight with cancer after serving in the South Congaree Police Department for eight years was laid to rest on Monday.
K-9 Officer Enzo died Thursday at the age of nine.
Enzo's death has taken a toll on the community especially on his partner Roger Singleton.
"We were always together, anytime whether we were on duty off duty we were almost always together he was always there," said Singleton.
South Congaree Police Chief Jason Amodio says Enzo faithfully served the community, that he was great at detecting drugs and great at interacting with children at schools and churches.
"He was our first k-9 our department has had here and the impact he's made in this community is phenomenal," said Amodio.
A fund is set up at First Citizens bank in honor of enzo.
The funds will go toward training a new k-9 dog for the police force.
The South Congaree Police Department stresses that Enzo cannot be replaced but dmit having a k-9 on staff helps keep the community safe.
