COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia police are charging a 34-year-old english teacher at Dreher High School with sexual battery.

Interim Columbia Police Chief Ruben Santiago says Kinsley Wentzky is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old male student at a Columbia home on several occasions. She is charged with sexual battery with a student 16 or 17 years of age (no aggravated force or coercion).

According to an arrest warrant, a student has given a sworn statement giving details about intimate interaction with Wentzky. Forest Acres Police Department provided Columbia Police with a copy of Wentzky's statement where she admitted to having sexual intercourse with the student.

Lieutenant Bryant Hinson of the Forest Acres Police Department said his office has an investigation into Wentzsky as well.

According to her profile page on the Dreher High School website, Wentzky has been teaching at the school for seven years, and has ten years of teaching experience.  She describes herself as "happily married" on the biography portion of the page.  Wentzky has two young children.

Police say a judge issued a $5,000 personal recognizance bond in the case.

A spokesperson with Richland School District One says a parent of a student reported the incident. Wentzky is on administrative leave with pay.
