Columbia, S.C. (WACH) -- A new restaurant has set up shop in the Midlands and they are giving back to the youth.

Smashburger is a burger joint that has a modern take on one of America's favorite foods.

Founder Tom Ryan saw the city as a perfect palette for his creations.

"Columbia was a great market.  First and foremost people here love their burgers second of all the partners that came to us and said we love Smashburger we want to open one.  They are some of the best guys I have ever met," said Ryan.

Ryan admits he never thought that he would be in the burger business but says it's a dream come true.

The restaurant owner is passing on to others.

During the month of December Smashburger will donate a dollar from every sandwich sale to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia.

The burger joint officially opens December 12 it is located at 4601 Devine Street.
