COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Students from Holly Beard's Human Growth and Development Class at Midlands’s Technical College donated more than 180 toys to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia Monday morning.

The students’ donation will be given to families whose children are being treated at Palmetto Health’s Children Hospital.

Beard’s class has been collecting toy donations for the Ronald McDonald House since 2008 and each year donates to hospital.

Beard says she started the project to help teach her students an important life lesson.

"I hope that they remember that they need to contribute to the community when they graduate. They just don’t need to take their knowledge with them and use it at their work place but rather they need to help other people,” said Holly Beard, Midlands Technical College, Professor.

Sixty students took part in the project.

Each year hundreds of families are served by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia.

These families seek shelter while their child(ren) are undergoing medical treatment or when dealing with an injured child.
