ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Four colleges and universities in the Midlands have signed an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency to make their campuses greener and to work together on environmental issues.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (http://bit.ly/UpERuQ ) that the presidents of South Carolina State University, Claflin University, Orangeburg-Calhoun Tech and Aiken Tech signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday.

The schools will collaborate with the EPA in research, teaching and on various projects. In addition, students will be offered internships with the EPA and the schools could receive federal grants for community environmental projects.
