IRMO, SC (WACH) - The Irmo Police Department has been called to handle three rabid animals in Irmo neighborhoods since October, according to Chief Brian Buck.
Buck says officers have been called to a rabid raccoon on the gournds of the Irmo Municipal Building, a rabid fox near the New Friarsgate neighborhood, and another rabid fox in the Old Friarsgate neighborhood.
Police ask the community to be aware of rabies and to watch for rabid animals in and around their neighborhoods.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control says, "stay away from wild animals acting tame and tame animals acting wild.”
Anyone who sees what they believe to be a rabid animal is asked to contact the Lexington County Health Department at 785-8113, the Richland County Health Department at 576-2910 or their local law enforcement agency.
