COLUMBIA (WACH) - A building at the University of South Carolina was evacuated Wednesday afternoon due to an unknown chemical leak, according to Columbia Fire Department officials.

A spokesman for the department, Brick Lewis, says crews responded just after 1 p.m. to the USC engineering annex building at 300 South Main Street.

Lewis says the building was evacuated and the 300 block of South Main Street and the 1100-1200 blocks of Catawba Street are closed.

The incident is under investigation.
