Columbia, SC (WACH)--A bill to decrease drunk driving in the Palmetto State is one step closer to passing.

Lawmakers and members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving are supporting a bill that passed in the Senate last week. The bill would require people convicted of drunk driving to have an ignition interlock device in their cars.

The bill is called "Emma's Law", named after Emma Longstreet; a six-year-old Lexington girl who was killed in a crash New Years Day 2012 by a repeat offender.

The device would test a driver's breath while also taking a picture to make sure no one else is using the device. The car will not start if alcohol is detected.

Emma's father David Longstreet said he does not want another parent to experience the same pain.

"She could not be a doctor in her life as an adult," Longstreet said. "But in her, maybe she can save others. It is going to allow us to have something in honor of Emma. We can't go to the soccer games, we can't go to the gymnastics events. We can't go to the beauty pageants. This is it."

The bill is now headed for discussion to the State House of Representatives.
