COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Many residents in the Midlands and across the nation gave Super Bowl Sunday a new meaning.

Members of the community, including Shandon Presbyterian Church donated money to Harvest Hope Food Bank Sunday. It is all a part of the annual "Souper Bowl of Caring" drive. The non-profit fundraiser is held at various churches and organizations every year on the same day as the NFL Super Bowl championship game.

The goal is to raise money to help food banks like Harvest Hope.

Shandon Presbyterian Reverend David Jones II said it is important to help those less fortunate.

"It is a part of our calling as Christians," Jones said. "We are called by God to help our neighbors and our friends in need. Sometimes, we don't meet those friends and neighbors. But we are still called to do what we can to help those who are hungry."

Other local organizations that participated in Souper Bowl of Care include Habitat for Humanity, Sistercare, and the Babcock Center.
