Columbia, S.C.(WACH)--The American Red Cross has officially rolled out a new App for natural disasters.

The Hurricane App is designed to help people prepare for a natural disaster.

"Now is the time to be prepared for tomorrow."  Said Anna Kate Twitty, from the American Red Cross.

It provides updates before, during and after a hurricane hits.

Safety tips like the tool kit which includes a flashlight, strobe light and alarm are at your finger tips.

The main feature is the "I'm Safe" message.  It allows friends and family members across the country to connect during a hurricane.

"It's a very simple and to the point." Said Twitty.  Here's how to get help, here's how to connect with your loved ones."

Other updates include personalized weather alerts, family emergency plans, and shelter locations.

The American Red Cross has plans to launch more natural disaster Apps later this year.
