CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The 18 candidates vying for South Carolina's open 1st District congressional seat have raised just over $3 million for the primary less than two weeks away.

Filings with the Federal Election Commission show they have spent more than $2 million as campaign ads saturate the airwaves in the district along the state's southern coast.

The filings available Friday reflect fundraising and spending through the end of last month.

There are 16 Republicans and two Democrats seeking the seat left vacant when Rep. Tim Scott was appointed to the U.S. Senate.

The Republican field includes former Gov. Mark Sanford as well as Teddy Turner, the son of media mogul Ted Turner.

Elizabeth Colbert Bush, the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, is seeking the Democratic nomination.
