RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) - Richland County deputies are looking for a man they say tried to abduct a student Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Leon Lott says a 14-year-old girl was chased by a man while walking home from the school bus at the intersection of Broad River Road and Hufstetler Drive around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Lott says the suspect approached the victim driving a burgundy pickup truck, rolled a window down and asked the girl if she wanted a ride. When the teen said no and ran away, the man got out of his truck and chased the girl.

According to Lott, the girl was able to get home, lock herself inside and call her family.

The man is described by Lott as being heavy set, dark skinned, bald and around 50 years old.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect should contact CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
