WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - A West Columbia man is charged with murder after police say he killed his girlfriend.
According to an arrest warrant issued by the West Columbia Police Department, David Richard Walker Jr., 30, strangled his girlfriend, Catherine Carrie Banty, 26, at the couple's home on December 10, 2012.
The warrant says Banty died from strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head. Walker is also accused of killing Banty while the couple's 4-year-old daughter was in the home. A neighbor told WCPD Walker left the home leaving the child with Banty's body.
Police say Walker fled to Aiken County and was stopped by Aiken County deputies on December 17 for acting suspiciously. He told the deputies he was wanted for murder.
Walker is in the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
