COLUMBIA (WACH) -- State lawmakers are proposing a bill to that would offer cervical cancer vaccine to adolescents.

Under this propsed amendment the department of health and environmental control would offer a series cervical cancer vaccines for students enrolling in 7th grade whether they attend public or private.

Lawmakers think this bill could be life changing.

"What we are trying to do is lower the cancer risk for women in South Carolina," said Democratic Rep. James Smith, Richland County.

If the bill amendment is passed, it could go into effect as early as May.
